So, exactly how did Twitter come about and what lies within its history? Twitter was the brainchild of Odeo, a podcasting company and came as a result of a day long ‘ideas’ session amongst board members back in 2006. The original code name for the project was ‘twttr’, tacking it’s inspiration from picture sharing site ‘Flickr’. Work on the project commenced on 21st March 2006, when the first ever ‘Tweet’ was made. This was at 9.50pm and read ‘just setting up my twttr’.

The definition of the word twitter is ‘a short burst of inconsequential information’, something which founder Jack Dorsey thought was perfect. The first Twitter prototype was used as an internal service for Odeo employees and the full version was introduced publicly on July 15, 2006.

Since these humble beginnings it would not be an understatement to say that Twitter has revolutionised the way we communicate globally, with millions of users it serves many purposes from allowing today’s ‘celebrities’ to keep in touch with the fans who idolise them, as well as being the first source of breaking news and worldwide issues. Never has the little ‘@’ symbol had such a big impact and been so iconic!

Twitter is not the only avenue we shall be using to inform people about our excellent design services. We also will be setting up a tumblr online portfolio containing all of our logo design, web design and print design work, so look out for that coming soon!
